It’s no fun working alone on big ideas. We all need a tight-knit community to thrive. That’s why Weird Ideas People exists.
Think of it as a dream friendship group that roots for you, doesn’t think your ideas are mad, gives you feedback, and spitball ideas with you.
What happens in Weird Ideas People?
We encourage each other to make progress and volunteer our time and skills to help when we can. Members meet once a month in Tokyo and have an active online Slack group. Being a member requires you to both give and take. Here are some of the ways we help each other:
- Offer helpful and constructive feedback.
- Listen.
- Open doors and connect people with resources or contacts.
- Promote and share someone's work.
- Offer our time, or skills, e.g., translate copy, design a poster, give marketing advice, help run a pop-up, offer technical advice, attend others’ events, etc.
- Have a laugh. Suggest absurd ideas. Go to events together. Make stuff.
What do you mean by creative businesses and passion projects?
Here are some of the passion projects and creative businesses members are working on:
- Projects connected to art, music, theatre, design, culture, crafts, food, literature, community building, education, society, and the environment.
- Creative businesses that involve people or physical objects, and happen predominantly offline: Fishing tours, kimono styling workshops, bilingual improv shows, creating clay art, and cooking classes.
- Passion projects: ****Creating a font from 3D images of iconic street furniture, running a museum about lucky talismans, creating a board game, writing a novel, starting an agony aunt column, and filming a documentary about people who make instruments.
